The Curvy Design Market seeks to bring independent designer fashion together with a plus size audience.
It is a boutique-style market, usually held in church or community halls in and around Melbourne, Victoria. In 2020 we also have markets booked for Sydney, Canberra and Wagga Wagga.
The market is open for a targeted time frame of 3 hours, usually 10am – 1pm. The reason for our targeted time frame is due to shopper and stallholder feedback, both of whom have pointed out that other markets that are open for a longer time have a drop-off of visitors after the first three hours, and stall holders start packing up after the visitor drop-off happens.
Marketing is targeted to plus size women shoppers in the region of each market location in the three weeks leading up to the market date in that location. We promote each of our stall holders with a minimum of one social media post, and share more of their posts if a stall holder is advertising the market on their own social media feeds.
Designers: all clothing must be strictly women’s size 14 (AU) and above. Preference is given to labels who go up to at least a size 26 to show our commitment to plus size fashion inclusivity.
Curvy Design Market gives preference to applications from designers whose products are original. The selection committee gives preference to applicants whose products are created using sustainable and/or local materials along with ethical manufacturing methods. Applicants who prioritise designing for plus size customers will be given priority.
